About Us

our why

Why we exist

Established in 2017, and operating from the Alnwick Community Centre, the charity has flourished over the years, increasing its turnover from £53,000 to over £130,000 annually to meet increasing community need and demand for services. We believe every child and family-regardless of circumstance-deserves a safe space to belong, grow, and thrive. We exist to challenge the deepening impact of rural deprivation and austerity, ensuring no one in our community is left behind.

How we do it

We place community need at the centre of all we do, shaping our strategic direction around real, lived experiences. Our work is guided by compassion, commitment, and a belief in grassroots action as a force for positive change.

What we do

We provide essential, inclusive spaces across Alnwick and North Northumberland where people of all ages can learn, play, and connect. Through youth work, family support, and community development, we strengthen local resilience and nurture hope.

Our MISSION

  • To address social exclusion in Alnwick, particularly Clayport Ward, by preventing individuals from becoming marginalized, relieving the needs of those already excluded, and empowering them to reintegrate into society through targeted support.
  • To help young people, especially through leisure-time activities, develop their full capabilities and grow into mature individuals who are active, engaged members of society.

Community @NE66 in Action

Creating Safe and Supportive Spaces for All

Everyone—regardless of circumstance—deserves to feel safe, supported, and included. At Community@NE66, we provide trauma-informed, welcoming environments that meet people where they are. Our spaces prioritise emotional and physical safety, especially for those experiencing the compounding effects of rural isolation, poverty, and austerity. This focus ensures that people feel safe and every individual feels supported and included, laying the foundation for long-term resilience.

Building Resilience and Positive Futures

We support young people and families to build self-regulation, confidence, and aspiration. By centring lived experience and listening deeply to the needs of our community, we design programmes that equip people with the tools to navigate life’s challenges. Through youth work, advocacy, and relational support, we help individuals develop stronger self-esteem and clearer ambitions for their futures. This approach helps people make better decisions and fosters positive aspirations and mental wellbeing.

Enriching Lives Through Connection and Experience

We believe that everyone should have access to enriching, joyful experiences that promote growth and connection. Through creative play, informal learning, trips, and shared activities, we bring people together and create opportunities for new experiences and treasured memories. This work enhances health and wellbeing while reducing feelings of isolation—especially important in rural communities where services and networks are limited.

Strengthening Community to Tackle Poverty and Inequality

Our commitment to challenging the deepening impact of rural deprivation is rooted in grassroots action. We work collectively with our community to address the root causes and consequences of poverty, ensuring that no one is left behind. Through accessible support, targeted programmes, and ongoing advocacy, we empower people to make positive choices and help reduce the number of families living in poverty. Our goal is a stronger, more connected community where everyone has the chance to thrive.
